Illinois legislators will be meeting for veto session one more time this year from November 7-9, which means this is your last chance to make your voice heard!
Voucher programs fail at serving students equitably and harm the public good because they divert public dollars from our underfunded public schools. In Illinois, the Invest in Kids voucher program has drained more than $290 million from the public coffers already. Worse yet, special interest groups who support the program want to extend and expand it, so their wealthy donors can continue taking advantage of this tax credit scholarship scheme and further defund public education.
We know that schools that receive vouchers bring about no improvement in academic outcomes, and they are free to discriminate on the basis of religion, disability status, LGBTQIA+ identity, and more.
WE ALL MUST TAKE ACTION NOW TO ENSURE THIS HARMFUL PROGRAM SUNSETS! Lawmakers still have until November 9 to decide the fate of the Invest in Kids voucher program. They need to hear from you as soon as possible that any extension of it will further harm our public school students.
