Update on March 4th Day of Action: Please Wear Blue!

Hello, Members,

We are reaching out to you about an important National Day of Action on March 4th and hope you will join us in these efforts. The Trump Administration is considering dismantling the Department of Education, which will negatively impact federal funding to our schools. If these proposals are passed, our nation will face the following consequences:

  • 26 million students in poverty would lose critical services

  • 7.5 million students with disabilities would lose special education support

  • 12 million students would lose access to career and technical education

  • 10.3 million people could lose healthcare coverage through Medicaid cuts

  • Student loan changes would make college unaffordable for 10 million working-class families

On Tuesday, March 4th, the Illinois Federation of Public Employees Local 4408 asks that all members wear blue to show our support for continued funding of public education. Many AFT affiliates are taking similar actions nationwide. We ask that you gather with your colleagues and e-mail your Senators and Representatives in Washington, D.C., on March 4th. Here is a link to Tell Congress No to Funding Cuts to Education.

We want to make sure our voices are heard in Washington, D.C., about the importance of continuing to fund education. We are asking our members to participate, in order to show unity and solidarity for this cause. Please take pictures and send them to ifpe4408vp@gmail, so we can share them on our social-media platforms and in our next Newsletter.

         In unity,

        Matt Emigholz

        President

         Veronica Aguirre

         Executive Vice-President
