The 2026 Election is right around the corner, and it begins with theMarch 17 Primary election. What’s happening in Washington is already being felt here in Illinois. Federal cuts and harmful policy decisions are putting pressure on our state budget, threatening funding for our schools, colleges, and universities, and forcing difficult choices that affect students, families, and working people across our communities.

That’s why this election and your participation matter more than ever.

IFT members recently began meeting in specific regions across the state to evaluate candidates running for federal, state, and legislative offices. Through our democratic Political Action Committee (PAC) process, members review questionnaires, voting records, and conduct interviews to determine where candidates stand on the issues that affect us most — from protecting public education and services to raising the revenue Illinois needs to fund them.

As federal support declines and our structural deficit persists, Illinois lawmakers will face increasing pressure to protect our state by generating sustainable and fair revenue to invest in the public good, including public schools, universities, and programs that our communities depend on. These meetings are your opportunity to identify and support the candidates who will fight for that vision.

Your input is critical. You can call 217.544.8562 today to RSVP for your Regional IFT PAC meeting. Meetings have begun and will continue through December 3.  View the schedule and plan to attend the meeting in your area to help decide which candidates deserve our union’s support.

As a reminder, the IFT will do a round of endorsements in the Primary and General elections.

Decisions made in Washington are harming Illinois. By engaging in our PAC process and electing leaders who will protect the public good, we can ensure that our state continues to stand up for working families and invest in a stronger future.
